Visitor statistics

A site’s Visitors tab shows who reads the site: visitors, page views, top pages, referrers and countries. The panel builds it from each server’s Traefik access log, so the site needs no script and sets no cookie.

Choose a period: 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 90 days. The numbers update every minute.

Card What it counts
Visitors Unique visitors. Over several days, each day’s visitors are added up.
Page views Successful requests for pages, not for the admin, the REST API, feeds or files.
Traffic Bytes sent, and the average response time.
Crawlers Requests from crawlers, and the server errors in the period.
Visitors per hour, Visitors per day The chart: by hour over 24 hours, by day otherwise.
Top pages The most viewed pages. Each one links to the page.
Where visitors came from The sites that sent visitors, by referrer.
Countries Visitors by the registered country of their address block.
Busiest addresses The addresses with the most requests, crawlers included.

A request whose user agent names a crawler, such as Googlebot or Bingbot, never counts as a visitor or a page view. The Crawlers card lists crawlers by name, as requests. The panel’s own uptime check is among them, as wpl7-probe.

Busiest addresses shows each address with its country, requests, pages, crawler requests, server errors and when it was last seen. Block next to an address opens the dialog that blocks it on every server. See Blocked addresses.

The list is the one part of the statistics that keeps personal data. Under Settings → Monitoring → Visitor statistics, set Keep visitor addresses for (days), or switch off Record visitor addresses (Busiest addresses, per-site). Switching it off deletes the addresses already stored, and the other numbers carry on.

A visitor is a one-way hash of the address and the browser, under a key the panel discards every night. The same person is a new visitor the next day, and two sites’ numbers cannot be joined. Countries come from tables the internet registries publish, which the panel downloads every week. Each lookup happens on your server, so no address leaves it.

Keep visitor statistics for (days) sets how long the counts stay. The default is 90 days.

  • Countries follow address registrations. A company’s network shows where it registered its addresses, not where the visitor sits.
  • A crawler that presents itself as a browser counts as a visitor.
  • Only requests that reach Traefik count. Pages a CDN serves from its cache never arrive.
  • The first read of a server’s log goes back six hours at most. Nothing older is filled in.
