Bulk management

Sites → Bulk management lists every plugin, theme and WordPress version across your sites, and changes them on many sites at once. A change runs as one job per site, grouped into one run you can follow.

Sites → Bulk management with plugin updates selected

Choose Plugins, Themes or WordPress core. Each row is one component, with how many sites have it, how many need an update or are vulnerable, and its versions. Open a row to see its sites.

The filter chips combine: Vulnerable with Has update shows exactly what an update can fix. Inactive and Closed on wp.org find plugins to remove. Search by name or slug, pick a server on a fleet, and tick Include stopped sites to show those too.

The numbers come from the last scan. Rescan all scans every running site now.

  1. Tick a row to select it on every site the table shows, or open it and tick single sites.
  2. The bar at the bottom offers only what every selected item accepts: Update, Update WordPress, Activate, Deactivate or Delete. Choose one.
  3. Keep or change Back up first and Check the site answers afterwards. Both start on.
  4. Confirm, for example with Update now. Delete asks you to type delete.

The run appears as a card with one row per site: the job’s status, the operations that worked, the pre-update backup and a link to the job’s log. A queued job can be canceled. A site already busy with another job is listed as skipped, and Reselect skipped sites selects what you asked for on those sites again. Recent bulk runs keeps the earlier runs.

Each server runs one job at a time, so a server’s sites take their turn while servers work in parallel. Each job takes the backup if asked, then runs the changes inside the site’s container, with WordPress last. It then checks that the site answers and scans it again. A job fails when a change or the check fails.

A selection with any item that cannot run the action is refused whole, and nothing is queued.

  • Must-use plugins and drop-ins cannot be changed.
  • The active theme and its parent cannot be deleted. To replace a theme, activate another.
  • Update is offered only where the last scan found an update.
  • Deleting a plugin deactivates it first, and leaves its database tables behind.
  • Changing the filters, the tab or the server clears the selection. A run only takes what the table shows.
  • A stopped site is started for its job, and stopped again afterwards.
  • A failed update is not rolled back. Restore the pre-update backup from the site’s Backups tab.
  • Pre-update backups stay until you delete them, so they use disk.
  • A site that has never been scanned cannot join a run.
  • Bulk management changes what is installed. It does not install new plugins.
